What computer should I buy? Dell Inspiron with Intel® Core™2 Quad vs. Gateway with AMD Phenom X4Quad?

Hey, I am planning on getting a desktop computer, and I’ve narrowed down to two computers (in title). I want something fast, yet reliable. I also want to game on either computer (not some super hardcore graphic gamer games, mostly quake wars enemy territory). Also, I plan to use it for school work. I also want it to be good for entertainment (watching youtube, or tv, blah, blah blah). Lastly, I want something good in making films with Vegas Movie Studio 9. My budget is 850, until a later time.

I dunno what PC to get!?!!?

Using PCSpecialist.co.uk I’m building an AMD Gaming RIG.

Now The problem is, I want to be able to play Crysis nicely, have the system future proof, be able to play Modern Warfare 2 Maxed out graphics, and other future games on max or as close as.

Now The problem is I have £1000. That is enough some might think however I do not wish to spend more than £865 on Computer because I still need to buy the Logitech G11 Keyboard, a decent Laser mouse, a Creative Fatal1ty headset, an that adds up about £85. Leaving me with a small amount to pre-order Modern Warfare and I want to get World of Warcraft as well as Subcribe for 6 months.

My Entire system spec is or MAY be:

Now that brings the price to £862 Which is OK. I’ll have enough to buy some games. Subscribe to Warcraft and pre-order Modern Warfare 2.

Now the thing that worries me is that it isn’t Quad, and that Tri-Cores never really lifted off the ground.

2nd of all, the price elevates to £913. That’s without the awesome keyboard I want. Then when I do buy the Awesoem keyboard, mouse, and headset then I’m left with about 20p to buy a game. (Won’t happen)

I don’t want to make the wrong choice.

People say don’t compromise on processors and I don’t want to drop price on the case and choose a smaller one with less intake/exhaust fans because my room is very hot alot of the time even with the windows open, and I also like the dust covers.

I won’t use newegg or anything else because I’m not building it myself. I’m using www.pcspecialist.co.uk

I already have a 20″ Samsung Syncmaster 2032MW 1680×1050 – 5ms HDTV Monitor/TV, Logitech X-230 2.1 Stereo Speakers, and a Logitech Quickcam 10 – 1.3MP Camera.

I need this system to run for a long time. And I don’t want to upgrade it for as long as possible either but I picked the mobo and case for just that reason – ability to upgrade if need be.

Also regardless of whatever CPU I choose is that CPU cooler going to keep my processor cool in a antec 1200 case in a warm room, an maybe during overclocking? (maybe overclock 400mhz-600mhz MAX)

Please help. If you have to use www.PCspecialist.co.uk yourself to mess about with available build options to cut cost, first click build my own > AMD > Crossfire System.

I don’t want dual-core. Please give me as much info as possible and some recommendations.

Please answer as many questions as possible shown in this question.

The main thing is the choice between Triple-Core and Quad. Although I need to save money to buy games. :( Confused :(

Thanks
So X3 it is? It’d save me a good £60-70. Which allows for some gamage! :)

I agree. I’ve read in a lot of forums its GPU slavery that does the leg-work mostly. I just hope my X3 won’t die off in 2 years.

I’ll keep the Antec 1200, again coz of my hot room, an I think I’ll go with the X3 720 Black Edition 2.8Ghz. Are you sure this will suffice for Crysis and Modern Warfare 2 on MAX?

Is the CPU cooler enough for my CPU. I do intend on Overclocking the X3 720 to 3.2GHz.

Thanks so far everyone, Lord I sense you are being honest, so I’m grateful.
I’d probably stick with a X3 720 til the last second. Unless I had to critially update due to every game needing quads.

Will this system overheat during many hours of gaming or when overclocked? Is it worth £939?

Is this a powerful enough system for gaming? Is it future proof? Is it worth the money? It worked out cheaper than a DDR2 based AM2+ system!

I spent a tad more money picking the Coolermaster HAF 932 Full Tower Black Gaming Case over the Antec 900 because it has more fans, bigger fans, and is larger inside. I can’t build PC’s myself so I may pay www.pcspecialist.co.uk to build it. It is a CrossfireX system. Will this last me many years? I hope it does.

Thanks for any help!

FX
2-3 years of gaming is fine. I can upgrade it immensely because it can hold 16gig of ram and have 4pcie x16 slots and 2 pci slots. I can also use multiple graphic cards.

I would use Newegg but they don’t ship to England, so PCspecialist.co.uk is the way.
I wasx hoping the 4 large case fans, and the triple copper heatpipe cpu cooler were enough. Surely it must be!

what is better???????

How do I get this low-end HP to where I want it to be?

I was thinking about getting this computer (HP) from Best Buy for college, because it comes with a monitor (24 inch) and is cheap- and I always assumed I’d be able to upgrade it to work for what I need it for personally (outside school). Essentially, it needs a wireless card, a graphics card, etc. Here are the stats:

Now, the easiest way of explaining what I need, is to get it to be able to play Mirror’s Edge for PC. If it can do that, it’s about at the level power wise that I want it to be at.

Cost rundowns would be great- and if it’s really even worth it, or if I should just save my money and get a higher-end rig.

Thanks!
